About Men's Wheels

Who runs Men's Wheels, what the blog covers, how articles are researched and checked, and how to reach the people who write them.

About this blog

This is a blog and nothing more complicated than that. Nothing is deleted once it is up, so the archive is the full record, written to the standard of the line under the logo, Cars, bikes and the road.

Men's Wheels started as a private notebook. Somebody kept a record of what was worth the money and what was noise, and after a few years that notebook was more useful than most of what was published online.

Why this name

People ask about the name. There is rarely a good story behind a domain, and there is not one here either. Men's Wheels was available, it was short enough to say out loud, and it has been the name long enough now that changing it would be more confusing than keeping it.

What we cover

  • Car Care. Washing, checking and maintaining a car so it lasts.
  • Road Safety. Driving safely in bad weather, with children and on busy roads.
  • Road Trips. Preparing the car and the people for long drives.
  • Motorcycles. Riding basics and motorcycle care for new and returning riders.
  • Games. Video games and gaming, from what we play to how games connect to the rest of life.

Each piece sits under exactly one heading. Readers arriving from search mostly land in car care, road safety and road trips, so those sections get looked after first.

What we do not do

We are not the right place for advice tailored to your exact situation. Men's Wheels publishes general guidance, and the difference matters more than it sounds.

How we work

Nothing here is written from a search results page. If we have not handled it ourselves or spoken to somebody who has, we leave the topic alone until we have.

We are independent. Nobody pays for a favourable mention, and the wording of an assessment does not change because a partner asked.

If you want the mechanics rather than the summary, the editorial policy has them, including what we refuse to publish.

Bylines

There is no house byline here. Each piece is signed, and each signature leads to everything else that person has put their name to.

Gareth Mulroney, Car care writer. Gareth worked in his family's repair workshop for twenty years. He writes about car care and maintenance, focusing on the checks owners can do themselves and the ones they should not.

Lucinda Arkwright, Road safety writer. Lucinda taught driving for fifteen years before she started writing. She covers road safety, winter driving, child seats and road trips with an instructor's eye for habits.

Augustin Mwangi, Motorcycle writer. Augustin rides touring motorcycles and races at amateur track days. He writes about riding technique and motorcycle basics for new and returning riders.

Fixing mistakes

Corrections go to info@menswheels.com. Quote the sentence rather than describing it. We would rather log a visible correction than edit a page and hope nobody noticed, and the contact page explains the rest.
